    Early SKiP announcement – Brad Ovenell-Carter @Braddo

Sketchbooks are where the magic happens. Digital or analogue, ipad or moleskine the sketchbook is ground zero for creatives’… creations! The 2nd early announcement for day 4 of the final week of submissions (and there is still room folks) is someone I would call a sketchbook guru. By simply drawing and sharing his sketchbook practices, intensively,  Brad Ovenell-Carter has been making his thinking visible and sharing his creative process online from inspiration to resolution.

braddoOn social media and in a variety of drawing formats, @Braddos practice insists… “If there’s one thing he’s learned in all this, it’s that the essence of technology has nothing at all to do with anything technological“. Drawing technology is one aspect we intend to explore at the Sketching in Practice Symposium, and it gives us great confidence to have Brad as one of our guides. In his session titled, “Your Brain on Paper” he will…

look at the history of externalizing our brains and make the case for developing a sketchnoting practice in K12 education as a way of making thinking visible

To be honest I wish I had had a sketchnoting practice when I was in K-12 it would have saved me alot of struggle in art school! >8)

Check out Brad on Instagram or, of course at SKiP on June 24!

Early SKiP announcement – Tracy Kelly @trass

Sketching is finding its way into workplaces of all types, and used for individual and group processes regardless of someones previous drawing experience. Not many advocate more strongly for individuals just beginning their visual practice than our next speaker announcement, Tracy Kelly .

ipad-tracyWorking in higher education at her day job with BC Campus, Tracy is on the front lines creating professional learning opportunities for BC educators, and has organized and presented at many workshops and events, ushering in ‘beginner’ drawing practitioners with ease.

ipad2-tracyDrawing on a rich set of tools found in the Liberating structures arsenal, Tracy will yet again be providing on ramps for people to play and discover for themselves the effectiveness sketching may have in their own work.  In her session called “Drawing Together” she states…

Participants will experience the very flexible “Drawing Together” Liberating Structures activity and consider ways to apply it in their own work/practice.

There will be more announcements coming up today, (since I missed on yesterday) as well as constant reminders to check out our Call for proposals which is ending tomorrow. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at inquire@sketchpractice.ca .

Early SKiP announcement – Joshua Korenblat @JoshuaKorenblat

Although SiP is strong in its scholarly leanings, we realize the practice of sketching is the lifeblood of designers and critical for idea creation, iteration and other process oriented work. The speaker in our next announcement covers these bases and more.

Joshua Korenblat hails from New Paltz NY (our first international speaker!) where he teaches graphic design and interaction. Luckily for us his travel is bringing him out this way and he’s able to join us to share a highly interactive and creative workshop. His proposal states…

This workshop will draw upon the Art Director’s method for generating rapid ideas and storyboarding, and it will also cover how to sketch records of observations that remain more quantitative in nature: data visualization.

Web_25-6xNodding to the “visual thinking basics” of Dave Grey, and weaving in  his experience with National Geographic, Joshua shares a practice steeped in traditional design and education. A talented artist is his own right, just check out his art page and some of the “iphone paintings in springtime” he’s been working on.

Please check out our Call for proposals if you are interested in adding your voice and talent to our growing community.

    More to come!
