  • SKiP announcement – Dr. Andrew Causey

Our first SKiP presenter announcement of 2017!

We are extremely pleased to announce our keynote speaker, artist-ethnographer Dr. Andrew Causey. Dr. Causey is an Associate Professor of Anthropology in the Humanities, History, and Social Sciences Department at Columbia College, Chicago, and comes to SKiP 2017 on the heels of his recent publication Drawn to See: Drawing as an Ethnographic Method in which he offers insights, inspiration and techniques to explore sketching as a means of making close observations, and as a way to interpret and translate research.

Some reviews of Drawn to See: Drawing as an Ethnographic Method

“With wit, passion, and empathic understanding of the bad feelings many (if not most) people have about their ability to draw what they see, this timely book provides a clear path to a powerful tool for anthropological research.”

~ Betty Edwards, author of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

‘Drawn to See is a call for people engaged in ethnographic projects to take up their pencils and draw their way to insight.”

    ~ Carol Hendrickson, Marlboro College

“Causey … extends the connections between drawing and the practice of ethnography in a remarkable—and practical—way.”

~ Rudi Colloredo-Mansfeld, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

  • Faces of SKIP 2016

Happy Holidays Sketchers! Before we head off into the great unknown that is 2017, we would like to take a final look back to one of the highlights of the year for us, The Sketching in Practice symposium, (and we hear our attendees agree :))  It’s too early to make any announcements for 2017, however the SKiP team is currently in the planning stages to host another event which we eagerly anticipate announcing in the new year.

You can look forward to details and dates coming soon! (more…)
